Prepping For The Pandemic: Fitness Edition

Writer's picture: Brianna Jeanette DiazBrianna Jeanette Diaz

The world is stopping, but that doesn't mean YOU have to.

Now, more than ever, it's important that you stay grounded in who you are and what you do. Many of us (me included) are without a job during these hard times, without income, without a gym (RIP gainz) but with all this "free time" it's TIME to do what you were meant to do. What you have been meaning to do but haven't because of "life"

So, I urge you all, get started. RIGHT NOW. The pandemic won't stop for anyone, so you best believe that you shouldn't either. We are all in this together.

So with that being said, this blog post will provide you tools that will help keep you stable throughout it all.

#1. SET A SCHEDULE

A schedule is so valuable during a time like this. It's easy to let the hours go by, laying on your couch, feeling hopeless, powerless, and lazy as you consume hours and hours of netflix (my experience the first day I had no work). STOP. Don't fall into this cycle. Start your day off right, even if you can't leave your house.

This is an example of my schedule, it varies day to day, but I like to attribute certain times for certain things.

Set a schedule for yourself, today! Abide by it, use it to ground you. It will help you progress to the goals you have set, trust in the process.

#2. BE ACTIVE EVERY HOUR

It's extremely easy to break your body down by staying home and not moving around enough. This can take a toll on your physical AND mental health. Set an alarm to move around every hour, stretch, do some burpees. SOMETHING.

Here are some of the things you can do. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OUTDOORS*** Maintain social distancing, but keep moving around.

Check out my IG https://www.instagram.com/briannajeanettediaz/?hl=en for some quick simple HIIT workouts that can keep you from being sedentary all day long.

Trust me, it will make all the difference.

#3 KEEP HEALTHY SNACKS IN YOUR PANTRY

Avoid prepping for this pandemic with all of the "bad snacks"... in less than 2 days you will find that most of them will be gone before you know it. Boredom breeds hunger, prep yourself for success.

Having frozen fruit has satisfied my sweet tooth cravings and set me to prep for success in my health. Be smart, don't eat out of boredom.

#4 TAKE REST DAYS

With this newfound time, it is tempting to go overboard with training. I found myself exerting my body too much with runs and HIIT workouts that I wasn't resting enough. Schedule in your rest days. Reach for the 10,000 step count daily, and aim to workout intensely 3-5x a week depending on your previous activity level.

Remember, it's during the rest that your body builds it's strength and muscle.

#5 CALL YOUR LOVED ONES

Facetime them, call them, talk to them, connect with them. You have all the free time in the world, there is no barrier now. Talk to those you love, ground them, calm them down, and use their voice to bring you peace and light during these times.

#6 CLEAN, REORGANIZE, DECLUTTER

Marie Kondo your life! If you have a messy space, you have a messy life. Clean it up. Your home is your space, make it worth living. Donate the things that have been sitting in your closet, re-organize your room, add some pictures to the wall (FreePrints is amazing for getting some cheap and quality pictures) and make your space yours.

#7 WORK ON YOUR CRAFT, HONE IN ON YOUR CRAFT, BE PERSISTENT WITH YOUR CRAFT

Now is the perfect time to sit down and get to work on your passions, on dreambuilding, on growing your personal business.

Read that book that will make you a better trainer. Take that online course that will help you perfect your photography skills. Pursue that passion that has been on the back burner. NOW IS THE TIME. Get to work y'all. Your ROI (Return of Investment) will be ohh so great. Do the work now. Get rewarded later.

#8 HAVE FUN

Most importantly, use this time to have fun! Discover who you are and what you like to do. This is the time when you can tune into yourself and discover what it is that you genuinely like doing.

These are my list of "fun" things that have been sprinkled among my day to keep me from grinding the whole way through..

Playing Board Games (Jenga, Cards Against Humanity, Monopoly)

Playing Video Games!

Drawing

Coloring Books

Reading Books

Watching Netflix w Roomies

Cooking New Recipes

These are just the few that I have been juggling as I continue to figure out what I like. I suggest you do that, and figure it our yourself!

All in all, use this time to propel you forward. You fall down, but that's what life is about. Then you pick yourself back up, again and again. You will have resistance trying to continually weigh you down, but that's where you build the muscle, how you get stronger, and truly become who you are meant to be.

Stay Strong, Stay Movin'

XOXO Bri
